The 2010 dates for the U18 and U16 squads at Farrington are:

U18           24th January 2010        U16         17th January 2010

                                                                   7th February

                                                                   7th March

The times are the usual 09.30 - 16.00.

Junior Section Management Structure

As a result of increasing workload and performances over the past season the junior section has reviewed a number of aspects which included the organisational structure.  As a result the following changes are being introduced:

Ian has joined us from Mendip Spring where he is the Junior Organiser his experience in that role will be of benefit to the junior section.  Over the coming season there will be a gradual handover of the responsibilities.

Somerset U16 Coaching Squad 2009 / 10

In preparation for the 2010 competitive season winter coaching is underway for all squads.  The following players have been selected for the U16 squad:

The first coaching session was held at Farrington on Sunday 25th October where Lewis Casserley (U18 squad) and Tom Sloman (U14 squad) joined the boys for video analysis and short game skills tests.  The coaching emphasis this year will be on competitiveness and technical improvement with sessions planned for 15th November and 13th December both at Farrington starting at 09.30.  Further sessions will be scheduled at Farrington for January, February and March. 


Somerset U14 Coaching Squad 2009/10

Geoff Collard the Somerset U14 Manager has selected the following boys for U14 coaching this winter.

U14 coach David Haines will coach the boys at Burnham Driving Range on:

16th November, 7th December, 11th January.

The teams for the matches next season will be selected from the above squad and those players in the club and coach programme who eligible by age for selection.

Somerset Golf Union Junior Section U18 Winter Coaching Squad 2009/10

 

The Somerset Golf Union will be holding coaching sessions initially from October to December in preparation for the competitive season.  The sessions will be on Sundays as follows; 18th October, 8th November, 6th December, all at Farrington Golf Club 09.30 - 16.30 information on the 2010 session will be provided later.  The coaches will be Adrian Bishop (Wells) County Lead Coach, Jon Cowgill (Farrington) County Assistant Coach.  A letter has been sent to all players informing them of their selection.  The initial winter coaching squad is:

The squad will operate on an 'open door' policy where progress will be monitored and if standards are not achieved then other players will be invited to attend.  Also a number of the above players are eligible for selection to the U16 team and we would hope and expect they would find the time in their schedule to play for the U16 team.

An invitation letter has been sent to all the above.

The Somerset U14 team completed their season with a match against Gwent U14s at Cannington Golf Club on the 29th August 2009.  The Somerset team fell behind in the morning foursomes by 2.5 games to 1.5.  However in the afternoon singles the team showed their determination by winning the singles by 5.5 games to 2.5 resulting in a win for Somerset by 7 games to 5.

The Glamorgan U14 team has been successful over a number of years but the Somerset U14 team made them fight all the way to continue that success at Tall Pines Golf Club on 19th August 2009.  In the morning foursomes the games were shared with Somerset unlucky not to go into lunch with a lead.  The afternoon singles were keenly contested with eight of the ten games going to the eighteenth with Glamorgan winning four , two halved and Somerset unfortunately only winning two of these.  Each side won one each of the other two games resulting in an overall win for Glamorgan 8.5 to 6.5.

Somerset U14s travelled to Cheddington Golf Club to play Dorset U14 on 11th August 2009.  The morning foursomes was an even conterst resulting in each team winning two games.  The afternoon singles proved more difficult for the Somerset boys winning only 2.5 points resulting in a 7.5 to 4.5 win for Dorset.

On the 6th August 2009 the Somerset U14 team travelled to West Wilts Golf Club to play Wiltshire U14s.  In the morning foursomes the Somerset boys performed well to lead by 2.5 games to 1.5 games.  That good form was continued in the afternoon singles with the boys winning 5 games to 3 resulting in an excellent overall win of 7.5 to 4.5.
