The Under 16s travelled to Wemvoe Castle to take on Glmorganshire in their opening Channel League fixture of the year. Glamorgan are traditionally a very strong county, particularly at this level. Our boys put up a very good fight but unfortunately lost the match 8.5-6.5.
The morning foursomes were very competitive, wins from Alix Kew and Alfi Jubb and Matthew Wordon and Adam Jolly were not enough to get the better of the home team and we went to lunch a point behind.
An opening half from Ollie Brimfield, backed up by wins from Bailey Langford and Alix Kew, opened the singles in a promising vein for Somerset. Back though came the Glamorgan boys, and they won the next three matches to re-assert their advantage. Unfortunately for us, Harry Selwyn had to concede his match due to illness and the odds were stacked against us. Somerset continued to battle, Adam Jlly and Timo Scobie both won their games, but another Glamorgan win gave them another 1 point advantage and an overall margin of victory of 2 match points.
Harry's parents have confirmed that he has recovered from his illness.
