SOMERSET SENIOR TEAM SUCCESS

The over 55's team compete in the Southern Counties knockout along with 15 other counties and the Regional qualifier was held at The Mendip on August 16th.

In the morning Somerset had a 3 - 2 win over Wiltshire and this lead to a closely fought final against Gloucestershire in the afternoon and our team got through 3 - 2 though the last match had to go all the way to decide the issue. The team on the day consisted of George Davies (Burnham) Capt. Gordon Baker, Barry Abbiss, Dick Champion, Jock Millar (Burnham), Selwyn Rees (The Mendip), Tony Glover (Brean), John Vernon (Saltford) and Tony Pendray the County President (Minehead).

A team of 8 now has to be selected to go forward and contest the final at Thorpeness (Suffolk) on Tuesday 5th.October in competition with Norfolk, Surrey and Middlesex.

It will be great if they can pull it off -- good luck.

YOUNGSTERS TO THE FORE

The County has for the first time put out a team of Under 14 year olds for a match against Wiltshire playing 9 holes of Foursomes pre lunch and 18 holes of Singles in the afternoon and it turned out to be a really good contest enjoyed by all the boys and if the result is important then we managed a win.
