CODE OF CONDUCT


All players’ officials and supports have a duty to promote high standards of behaviour and values. When representing the SGU, you have a significant role to play in this and are required to conduct yourself in accordance with our values at all times.  

Be Honest- acting with integrity, fairness, trust, reliability and transparency

Be Supportive- working together to make golf better for everyone, inspiring people to achieve their goals

Be Excellent- continuously improving, exceeding expectations and setting high standards.

Be Responsible- being personally accountable and passionate about driving a strong future for golf. 

Be Inclusive- welcoming and enabling everyone to be involved with golf in Somerset and beyond. 
 
As an SGU player we want you to: 


Enjoy golf in a positive environment. 


Be safe and happy. 


Feel respected. 


Be treated fairly and listened to. 


Have any concerns taken seriously and acted on. 


Be protected from abuse. 


Have your privacy respected. 


Feel comfortable asking for help. 


Report any concerns you may have in relation to another person, or any inappropriate behaviour by anyone, to your Team Captain, Team Manager,  Welfare officer, County Secretary or Official. This is particularly important if it involves a person under the age of 18 years. 
 
Code of Conduct


This code of conduct acts as the minimum standards expected when participating in SGU activities (whether training or events in Somerset or elsewhere) you must ensure you are familiar with and understand the Code. 
In accordance with the SGU & England Golf’s Core Values, this Code of Conduct requires you to: 
 
Be Honest


Do 
Demonstrate fair play and apply golf’s standards and etiquette both on and off the course. 
Respect tournament officials and accept decisions/rulings 
Treat SGU staff, officials and volunteers with respect. 


Don’t 
Cheat 
Tell lies, gossip or abuse your position. 
 
Be Supportive 


Do 
Respect your fellow team members, and respect your opponents and /or playing partners. 
Comply with reasonable requests from the SGU staff, officials and volunteers and take action to address any issues raised by them. 


Don’t   
Publicly use critical or disrespectful descriptions of others or the SGU , including players, via social networking sites. 
Disregard or break instruction set by SGU staff, officials and volunteers. 
 
Be Excellent 


Do 
Maintain the highest standards of attendance across all opportunities, presented by the SGU, and provide notice and explanations to SGU staff, officials or volunteers where this is possible. 
Display high standards of behaviour and appearance at all times, as an ambassador for your County, Country, your Sport and your Club. 
Be organised and on time. 
Wear kit provided by the SGU as required 


Don’t 
Circulate information on team or squad selection before this is published by the County Captain/Manager. 
Engage in bullying, intimidating, violent or aggressive behaviour. 
Use foul language. 
 
Be Responsible 


Do 
Keep yourself safe. 
Take care of equipment provided to you by the SGU 
Report all concerns and any inappropriate behaviour or behaviour that falls below the standard set out in this Code of Conduct. 
Abide by the England Golf Anti-doping policy. 
Act responsibly and appropriately when consuming any alcohol, taking reasonable action to both prevent alcohol problems and address any alcohol–related issues as they emerge. 


Don’t 
Engage in illegal or inappropriate behaviour whilst representing the SGU 
Consume alcohol in an excessive manner whilst representing the SGU 
Take drugs listed on the UKAD register (UK Anti-Doping). 
 
Be Inclusive 


Do 
Help create and maintain an environment free of bullying, fear and harassment. 
Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of age, gender, ability, race, cultural background, religious beliefs or sexual identity. 
Challenge or report if you observe any form of discrimination and or prejudice. 
Accept that these guidelines are in place for the well-being of all concerned. 


Don’t 
Bully or use bullying tactics to isolate another player to gain an advantage. This includes bullying of any kind on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat and other such forms and social network sites. 
 
 
I understand that if I breach the Code of Conduct I may be removed from the SGU programme, lose associated rights or privileges, or may be sent home from an event or trip at my own cost    
 
 
We work as one team-A diverse group of individuals driving towards shared mission, purpose, values and goals with a passion for succeeding for Somerset
