Match report

It was our turn over the bridge to Wales for our friendly match against Glamorgan, and we’re met with a wonderful sight “Rain” this certainly didn’t dampen the boy’s spirits as the air was so cool after six weeks of sun.

We played at Llantrisant & Pontyclun Golf club a lovely course set in the Rhondda valley, the course was well presented, and we were greeted by a very friendly staff.

A great start to the morning foursomes with Kyle Miller and Ashton Wylie bring Somerset our first point followed closely by Tom Canavan and James Rew securing our second point on the seventh. Jackson Carey and Theo Gannon were playing along nicely when a rules issue cropped up in Somerset’s favour but Jackson, our rules guru, graciously let Glamorgan off seeing it was a friendly match and the boys were not aware of this rule. In hindsight that decision could of easily changed Jackson & Theo’s outcome but we believe he did the right thing in this instance.

With a half from Alex Marshall and Jack Coward and a superb win from Freddie Lovell and newcomer Jake Oswin we were looking good for the afternoon.

Captain for the match Alex Marshall had a tough opponent but an eagle on the 267yd ninth hole helped secure Somerset’s first win of the afternoon.

Somerset triumphs started coming thick and fast with James win securing the match and Jack and Theo’s win coming in after was just the icing on the cake.

I would like to thank Llantrisant & Pontyclun Golf club for all their hard work and very pleased to hear that they thought that the boys from both teams we’re the most polite that they had met.

From a very proud Manager

Geoff Collard
