SGU postpone all golfing activities until 27th July 20

FROM THE CHAIRMAN/EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF SOMERSET GOLF UNION

The decision has been taken following government advice and in the interests of players, coaches, referees, volunteers, supporters and the wider golfing community.

Where possible, players at all levels are encouraged to maintain their own personal fitness and keep active during this time, while following government guidelines about safe distancing.

The SGU will continue to review and monitor government advice and will provide detailed updates on the impact to the season in the coming weeks.

It is our aim to re-schedule as many "Major County Championships as possible", however this may not be achievable in all cases.

We emphasise that the current situation is suspension and not cancellation of all events although some will become casualties as clubs and Counties struggle with uncertainty and fixture list chaos.

The SGU are in discussion with adult and junior inter-county leagues and a collective decision will be reached in the near future about the feasibility of continuing with competitive inter-county golf 2020 or migration of this years fixtures to 2021. The SGU will support our affiliated Clubs by putting their individual needs ahead of any County fixture.

A  decision will be reached in the coming days which will address advance entries. Please allow us time to fully access the complexities that have taken over all our lives and rest assured that everyone’s health and safety has and will remain our priority.
