Championship Chairman Dennis Longden and Enmore Park Captain Martyn Clapp with the prizewinners
(L to R) Mathew Warman (Bath) Will Howlett (Enmore Park) James Popham (Enmore Park) Sam Sloman (Taunton & Pickeridge) Matt Pearson (Worlebury)
In a thrilling finish to this year's championship first round leader James Popham from Enmore Park was pushed to the last putt on the last green by Sam Sloman of Taunton & Pickeridge. Trailing by one shot standing on the 18th tee Sloman knew he had to birdie the par 5 to stand a chance of forcing a playoff. Undeterrred he sank a long putt for his birdie leaving Popham facing a tricky 16 footer to avoid a playoff. As the ball rolled in the hole it was possible to see the strain drain away from Popham's face. Another local boy Will Howlett took the net prize with a commendable 139 total which brought a big smile to Enmore Park Club Captain Martyn Clapp's face.
The best round of the day was by Thomas Aldom of Clevedon with a gross 70 (one under par) for the afternoon round but unfortunately he had put in a nil return in the morning.
