Well, what can you say, a bad day at the office ! To be fair to the boys, they were always going to struggle against a Wiltshire side that were stronger on handicap and at their peak age wise. The first 2 pairings in the morning were giving away considerable handicap shot differences and also physical size, so the results were inevitable. The last 2 pairings however did battle and Somerset were unlucky not to get something from either. The afternoon result was as expected with Mikey and Lewis looking to have the best opportunities to pick up something, both played well with Mikey taking his match to the 17th and Lewis, having lost the 17th to go 1 down, securing a superb birdie on the last to secure half a point, in front of a growing gallery at the end of the day. The bottom line is that they were better than us, and as I explained to the boys, golf can be brutal and sometimes you just have to put your hands up, take it on the chin and move on. Lastly, the most positive point to come out of the day was their attitude. To a man, their behaviour was superb and their attitude even when 'under the cosh' was excellent. Well done guys, not the result we wanted but you did yourselves and the County proud !
