Last Sunday, Somerset welcomed Devon to Wheathill Golf Club. The morning's foursomes were played in dry conditions and the lads were riding high after a fine draw against Dorset.

Ollie Brimfield and Lewis Coward were first on the tee and were involved in a tight match. Ollie was unlucky lip out on 7 to go 1down and then a superb 3 on the 8th enabled the match to go down the last. Their opponents played the Par 5 superbly and Somerset needed to hole an 8 footer to secure the half which they narrowly missed and the first match went to Devon. Freddie Turnell & Kyle Miller were next out and whatever they tried they lost 4&3 against two very strong opponents, so 2 matches to Devon. Adam Jolly & Timo Scobie followed and in a close match won the 8th to go 1up down the last, the tough Par 5 caught our lads out though and Devon won the last, but the first half point was secured for the home County. The last foursomes pairing of Charlie Hooper and 'home lad' Callum Whittaker were level going down the last, however both sides found trouble, and it was Devon who secured the win on a tense final hole. Devon 31/2 Somerset 1/2 at lunch.

On paper, the afternoon was always going to be tough and so it proved. The highlight of the afternoon was a 5&3 win by Charlie, with Freddie, Lewis and Callum all taking their matches to the last hole and being unlucky not to secure any points.

So on a challenging day Somerset lost 10 1/2 points to 1 1/2 points and it really was a case of the score not representing the effort put in, and some excellent golf played by our lads. We would like to thank Wheathill for the courtesy of the course and their superb hospitality. We look forward our next game against Gloucester on the 27th July.
