Continuing the fantastic week experienced by the 1st team during South West Week, the development squad traveled to Sidmouth Golf Club to take on Devon in this Wessex league fixture.
A challenging course and Caribbean like climate tested the team to the full and to their extreme credit they won the match 6.5 v 5.5. Any win on away soil is an achievement but this was especially pleasing when faced with a "new" course and the heat that was evident throughout the weekend.
The team of Jason Brock, Dylan Xahn, Josh Freeman , Matt Blackman, Andy Ferris, Liam Copp, Kobe Adams, Taylor Lloyd started strongly and finished the morning Foursomes ahead by 3.1. With wins for Lloyd/Adams 3/2 Blackman/Ferris 5/4 Freeman/Copp 3/2
The afternoon singles was a much closer affair with Devon striking early and winning 3 of the first four singles with Freeman bringing in the first win 3/2 . A very strong 7/6 win for Copp and a convincing 3/2 win for Lloyd meant that Somerset had at least a draw until Brock who was 3 down with 5 to play managed to secure a half on the 18th to secure the victory and a deserved win for all concerned . Congratulations to all our players who will have continued to gain experience and will be a little wiser as to how they need to continuously improve to secure more points.
Many thanks go to Richard Powell the Sidmouth Captain and all the staff for their hospitality and welcome, my personal thanks to Roger Worthington Devon team manger for his sportsmanship throughout the fixture .
