After two convincing wins in our previous matches could the boy’s perform for our third match this season against Wiltshire?
The venue was Orchadleigh and certainly no easy track with plenty of trees and tight turns plus a bit of water thrown into the mix. The club made us very welcome and the condition of the course was excellent, luckily the weather held off and stayed dry.
First off for the morning foursomes was Bailey Langford, our Captain for the match, and Kyle Miller both undefeated in their foursomes matches this year. Again didn’t disappoint with a convincing win of three up and two to play. Our second pairing out was Ashton Wylie and big hitter Stanley Richardson with his ever faithfull driver Stanley was putting Ashton a lot closer to the hole than he was used to, they had a rollercoaster round taking it to the ninth and Ashton sinking a tricky left to right three footer to clinch the half.
Third out was Alex Marshall and James Rew who had a happy round, always smiling and winning on the seventh. The final pairing was seasoned county player Jackson Carey and Will Brooks who were never down in their game to give Somerset our final point making a 3 ½ - ½ advantage.
After a quick pasta launch it was out for the singles with the boy’s buzzing, a little chat from Ian Vibert our performance coach was needed to settle them down and focus on their games. This certainly worked as “boy did they focus” with wins coming in from all directions Ian and myself didn’t know where to turn with four games finishing around the thirteenth with the exception of Kyle game finishing on the eleventh. Ashton took his game to the eighteenth but lost to a longish putt from Wiltshire but this was a close match and Ashton played well, I think the best come back came from Captain Bailey who had been two down for most of the round but managed to ignite his afterburners and won five holes on the trot to the eighteenth giving us a final win of 10 ½ - 1 ½ towards the Jack Roberts Trophy. With our strongest team back for our next match we’re having a truly exciting season so far.
Well done boys!
