A beautiful sunny day greeted the teams for the friendly fixture between Somerset and Gloucestershire. The course was in great condition - the greens fast and true and the whole course looking immaculate in the sunshine.

Somerset took the honours in the morning foursomes, with all games being closely played in a friendly spirit. Finley and Ryan took the opening point for Somerset closing out their game for a 2 and 1 win. Wills and Neo came second best to a strong Gloucestershire pairing in game 2 who won 4&2. The irrepressible Zane proved to be the ideal partner (again) for Jack on his Somerset debut as they won their game 2&1. Alec and Matthew were made to battle before their game finished all square, leaving Somerset with the a 2.5-1.5 lead to take into the singles.

Finley continued his fine run of form to add another point for Somerset, but Ryan came up against an opponent on the top of his game, and Gloucestershire reduced the deficit in game 2. Zane and Wills added two more points for us in games 3 and 4. Zane closed his game out with a 3&2 win with Wills cruising home to win 5&4. There were some rare old tussles in the remaining matches. Gloucestershire closed the gap again as Neo went down 5&4 before Alec secured the winning point with a 2&1 win.

Matthew's resistance finally came to an end on the 17th tee to lose 2&1 before Jack took the honours in the last game winning 3&2. He sealed his win on the 16th with a very impressive four. After coming up short of the pond, he had to chip sideways, hit an excellent wedge and then sank the putt! Easy this County golf Jack!!

This was a great performance from the team. Gloucestershire are a very talented side and the match was played out in the best example of sportsmanship from both teams. Our thanks to Manager Tom, Captain Ambrose and the Glos team for an enjoyable day. We look forward to the Under 12 fixture against them at Lydney later in the year/

I would also like to thank the whole team at Isle of Wedmore GC for sharing their course and clubhouse with us. We were royally looked after with some excellent food, friendly staff and support from the Pro Shop. Lots of the parents I spoke to were very impressed with the set up and will be looking to return to play the course.
