Somerset Golf Development Group to close

It is with some sadness that I have to announce that with immediate effect the Somerset Golf Development Group is closing down. The website will still be operational providing news and information for both men and lady golfers with input from the SGU, SLCGA and local PGA. Clubs will also be able to promote events using the links on the site.

Over the past few years England Golf have altered the ways that they are supporting counties and no longer provide County Development Groups any funding for development. The EG County Club Support Officer Martin Higgs will still be operational but will have no direct funding available to support any club projects or events.

Since the group began in 2005 under the name of Somerset Golf Partnership there have been many successes the greatest of which, in my opinion, is the SGU and SLGCA working together with the PGA to provide support to clubs throughout the county. Before this, all 3 operated as separate groups, often pulling in different directions. The men and ladies will still be working together on the England Golf Somerset Junior Pilot Project and long may it continue.

Finally I would like to give a big thank you to all those who have served on the partnership/group over the past 12 years.
