A thrilling match against Devon at Long Sutton ended in the narrowest of defeats for a much changed Somerset Under 16 team who lost 4.5-3. There were several new faces in the team, some new recruits and returning players, thanks to the organisational skills of our County Secretary Rob Davis.

In the opening game, our Captain Ashton Wylie was kept at bay by Jack Dart ho closed out the game 3&2. George Geddes came flying out of the traps winning the first 6 holes before his opponent rallied. George won 2&1 to secure our first point. Freddie Lovell followed suit with another 2&1 win for Somerset before Josh Mowat secured a battling half on the 18th green. The next two games ended in favour of the visitors. Lowen Stephens and Morgan Crouch fought all the way but the points went to Devon.  Oliver Tripp then turned  in a composed performance, securing our third game win over Alex Chau. The final game went in favour of Devon as newcomer Daniel Webber was not able to match the firepower  of Dion Page-Dove.

On paper, Devon looked much the stronger side so it was greatly to the credit of our team that the end result was so close. What was also very good to see was the team spirit shown by Somerset, in particular Ashton who went out of his way to look out for the new members of the "Red Army"

Grateful thanks to Long Sutton for their warm welcome and well presented course. The owners and members of the Club are always very supportive of County golf and it is very much appreciated. The Management and Players of Devon were a pleasure to compete with, golf was played in the right way with the desire to win tempered by good sportsmanship all round. A good day at the office!
