Winning the event has meant the profile of juniors within the club has been raised and the club are extremely proud of this achievement. Just over 4 years ago, when I started as Head Professional, the club had just 3 juniors and now with a thriving junior section of over 45 juniors, many with handicaps that are reducing fast and with juniors winning club competitions, it shows that juniors are the lifeblood of the club and the future of the game. With the arrival of PGA Professional Alex Todd as Head of Coaching and Game Development, the club is moving forwards at a rapid rate in encouraging not only junior golf but also beginner golf and in particular ladies golf, this fabulous achievement bolsters the hard work done at the club in securing its future.
The current holders of the National Championship are Saltford so lets hope The Mendip can keep the title in Somerset.
Somerset Golf Union thank Saltford GC for hosting the event

Saltford Golf Club were today crowned the England Golf Junior Champion Club for 2019 at Woodhall Spa, the home of England Golf. The team of Dewi John, Dylan John and Alex Georgiou posted a winning score of 149 points based on the best two cards from three over two rounds, playing on the famous Hotchkin Course. Parkstone Golf Club came second with 148 points and the Kendleshire Golf Club came third with 145 points.
Lying 12th overnight with a round 1 points total of 68, the boys played phenomenal golf in round 2 finishing with an incredible 81 point total which moved the team into top spot. Special mention for Dewi John who played round this extremely difficult course in 2 under gross (including two 3-putts!), scoring 42 points off a handicap of 4. Dylan John added a hugely valuable 39 points to Dewi’s score and Alex Georgiou’s 35 points second round score ensured they had a very strong third card in case count back was required.
Congratulations to all three boys on a great win. Saltford Golf Club have been Somerset’s representative in this competition several times in the last 10 years. It was very rewarding to win this hugely prestigious England Golf Competition and we look forward to the chance to defend the title at Frilford Heath Golf Club, Oxfordshire, next year.
