We are delighted to have been invited to join with the Junior Open at Bath and to use this as the qualifying competition for the Somerset Junior Champion Club. The winners will be invited to represent the County at the National Finals, to be played this year at Frilford Heath on 16-17th August .
The rulese are very simple:
We hope that Junior Organisers within the County will support the event. Somerset have come very close to winning the competition in the past, none more so than Worlebury who finished as runners-up in 2015. In the absence of a Junior Organiser, individuals may wish to talk to their playing companions about entering as a team - I am sure that Clubs would be only too pleased to support. Last year we had 2 representatives from 2 individual clubs, and with the addition of a 3rd player, either of them would have put pressure on the eventual winners, Saltford.
Bath will be tring for their first win in the competition since 2012, whilst Saltford will be aiming to make it a hat trick of victories this year.
Entry forms and posters can be downloaded from this page - but plase remember to enter the Bath Junior Open as well!
Congratulations to Saltford Golf Club Juniors who retained the title and again represented Somerset in the national Champion Club competition at Woodhall Spa in August.
Saltford Gof Club have always been great supporters of this competition, and it was only fitting that they were given the opportunity to host the 2017 event. They entered 3 teams, but Junior Organiser David Phillips and Junior Captain Lewis Osman did not let on to the players the exact make up of the teams. Each one had everything to play for and every single one acquitted themselves well on the day.
In the event, it was the combination of Dewi John, Dylan John and Alex Georgiou who posted the winning total of a combined 112 points. Runners up was the Taunton & Pickeridge team of Alfie Jubb, Bailey Langford and Kyle Miller - Alfie posed an individual total of 41 points. Third place went to the Bath trio of Matthew Wordon, Liam O'Mara and Adam Jolly.
Thank you to all the clubs who supported the event by entering teams, and we hope that the numbers will grow next year. There were clubs that had 2 entrants, and if they had managed to find a 3rd player may well have challenged Saltford for the title. As it is, we wish Salttford the very best of fortune as our representatives at the home of England Golf in August. With the experience gained from the 2016 competition, they will be well placed to improve on their very creditable 2016 result..
Finally, our grateful thanks to David Phillips, Tim Parker and Bob Perkins for organising such a superb competition. Their dedication and professionalism are well known throughout the County, and again the club proved to be the perfect hosts.
The 2018 competition will be held at Bath Golf Club on July 8th.
