This was always going to be a tough match for our Under 14 team against Wiltshire at Broome Manor. Anyone studying the form book in advance would have seen that Wiltshire have a talented and experienced team. In their opening two matches in the Jack Roberts League, they recorded 8-0 wins over both Cornwall and Dorset. The odds were that our relatively young and inexperienced team were going to have a tough battle on their hands. There were county debuts for Charlie Cunningham from Weston-super-Mare and Jenson Barker from Farrington Park.
In the end, our team lost the match 7.5-0.5, and whilst the overall score might seem to be disappointing, the boys should all be proud of themselves as they tried their best, kept their spirits up and fought to the end. There are times when, no matter how well you play, your opponent will produce the better golf on the day. The Wiltshire Management and Team were all highly complimentary about how our boys played and conducted themselves. They could see, as do we, that we have potential within the squad .
Our thanks go to Wiltshire along with our congratulations for winning the Jack Roberts League with one game still to play. They were warm and generous hosts, as were the staff at Broome Manor. Thank you also to the parents, grandparents and our supporters for bringing the boys to the match. We might not have enjoyed the result but all of us can, and will, benefit from the experience.
Onwards to Gloucestershire for our final match of the season!
