Following a thorough recruitment process, the vacancies for the roles of County Secretary and Junior Performance Manager have now been filled.
SGU Chairman Tommy Tulk commented "We received many high quality applications for both positions, each of which demonstrated an excellent skill set and a high degree of enthusiasm for the roles, it made our selection process very difficult. However, we are confident that we have identified the best candidates for these demanding positions and are looking forward to the contribution that they will make to to the continued success of the Somerset Golf Union. I would like to thank everyone who applied for the roles for their interest in joining us and would like to wish them well for the future."
Rob will be taking up the position in January 2019 after a long and distinguished career in the Police Force. He is no stranger to golf in Somerset and for many years was a member at Wells Golf Club. His playing credentials include being a successful period as a County player and was Captain of the Somerset team in 1997 & 1998. Tommy Tulk said " We are all absolutely delighted to be welcoming Rob back into the heart of Somerset Golf. His is a well known face throughout the county, and his experience of golfing matters backed up by the highest professional standards made him an outstanding candidate for the role."
Paul is the head Professional at Bristol & Clifton Golf Club and has a huge amount of experience of coaching at all levels. He has coached the Under 18 squad for Gloucestershire and can count Ryder Cup star Chris Wood among those who have benefited from his expertise. He has, until recently, been coaching the England AASE squad in the South West. Junior Organiser Ian Poole said " I am very pleased to welcome Paul into his role with the SGU Junior Squads. He will be working with our other successful Junior Coaches to bring together a structured coaching plan right through the age ranges. His experience will add a new dimension to junior golf in the County"
