The U16’s hosted the match against Gloucestershire at Worlebury GC. The course was in great condition, and we were made to feel welcome by staff and members.
The morning foursomes.
The home County started well, with all five of the games being in Somerset’s favour at the turn. This dominance continued into the back nine holes, with all but one match finishing early. The pairings of ‘Bailey & Freddie’, ‘Stanley & Jack’; ‘Dewi & Dylan’; ‘Ashton & Kyle’; all won with at least scores of 5 & 4.
The final match of the morning Foursomes looked to be going the same way with the pairing of team Captain Jackson & Alex being four up with four to play, but a spirited fight back from the Gloucestershire pairing meant the match went down the last hole, but a solid tee shot from Jackson & good approach shot from Alex secured the final point of the morning.
So a great 5 -0 win in the morning.
It has to be said Gloucestershire Squad wasn’t the strongest of teams, but as the saying goes, ‘you can only beat what’s in front of you’.
Afternoon singles.
After the dominant morning, spirts were high for a good win in the afternoon.
Kicking off the afternoon was Bailey Langford, Bailey never really got in his stride in the afternoon losing to his opponent 2 & 1.
Next out was Freddie Turnell, again Freddie struggled against a weaker opponent & lost on the final hole.
Back down the field matches were not going our way, and for Jack and myself panic buttons began to ring, could this be a great come back from the away side.
Stanley steadied the ship with a great 7 & 6 win.
Then our lower handicaps started to show with wins coming from Alex, Kyle, Jackson Dylan & Jack.
These wins gave us a 6 - 4 win in the afternoon, and a great 11 - 4 final result. If I was perfectly honest the afternoon score flattered the home side a little as the Gloucestershire side gave a spirited show in the afternoon.
