Freddie Turnell earns EG coaching selection

Freddie is absolutely delighted as you can imagine!

He has worked incredibly hard this year and he has been fortunate to have a field over the road  to hit balls in during lockdown which he dutifully did for hours and hours at a time!  That and chipping in the garden!

Freddie has played a lot of stableford and medal competitions at Burnham & Berrow this summer and consistently put  in good solid scores. Sadly all the "big" comps he entered were cancelled due to Covid.

However, he played well at the England Golf Douglas John Trophy shooting a gross 71 and did well to qualify for the U18 Carris Trophy a Championship which he can look forward to competing in for 3 further years!

His current handicap is now 0.5 and with hard work throughout the winter month Freddie should see his score improve next year.

Hot on Freddie's heels are 2  other Somerset lads Alex Marshall and Tom Canavan, both came close to selection but on this occasion just missed out.

With the SGU losing Tom Sloman and Tom Plumb to the professional ranks our next generation are lining up to replace them and in Ollie Brimfield  the step up is just around the corner!
