On a bright sunny morning, the leading youngsters from across the County travelled to Frome to contest the Under 14 Championship. County Under 14 Team Manager Geoff Collard watched all the boys tee off and with the course in excellent condition some good scores were anticipated.
The early pace in the net competition was set by Cameron Barrett from Long Sutton with a net 60, some 9 better than par. Chasing close behind were Saltford's Tom Roach and Clevedon's Rhodri Lewis both with net 62. A 64 from Ben Tompkins, also Clevedon, continued to set a high standard but it was the last 2 groups that dominated the gross event. Taylor Stote, Burnham & Berrow, with 78 was the leader in the clubhouse but with Tom Barker, Burnham & Berrow and Will Warman, Bath, coming up the last level with each other and ahead of Stote, a dramatic final hole was in prospect. Warman held his nerve and claimed the title with an impressive birdie.
