 Worlebury are the 2016 Champions

On a beautiful day at Wedmore, Worlbury and Enmore lined up for the final of the Pickeridge Bowl.

The course was looking a picture and our thanks to the Isle of Wedmore Golf Club for hosting the event.

Scores after nine Holes Former County Player James Popham 3 up against Ken Sanlam Hanson after sinking a 51 foot putt on the 9th hole from off the green.

Joe Dale from Worlbury went through  the 9th one up against Craig Lazenby, with the next pairing of Ryan Brewer versus Alex Winn cancelling out the previous pairing with Ryan being 1 up.

The final two pairs of Craig Cook Enmore and Josh Freeman Worlbury and Scott Bellinger Enmore against Simon Dempsey were all square through 9.

At this stage it look like the match would be decided by the back four games and with Popham four up with 7 to play all looked dead and buried for Hanson. However, he came fighting back to win 5 of the next 6 Holes to be 1 up going into the last where his second shot from off the green finished on the edge of the hole - game over.

Match two saw another point for Worlbury with Joe Dale winning 3 & 2 over Craig Lazenby. The next match was finally decided on the first play off hole a win for Ryan Brewer. The final match saw Scott Bellinger bring home a 3 & 1 win against captain Dempsey to leave the scores all square at two all.

All depended on the last match on the course between Josh Freeman & Craig Cook. This too had gone to extra holes and after halving the 19th hole Josh secured the trophy for Worlbury on the 2nd extra hole.

This was a tremendous exhibition of competitive golf by both sides well done to both clubs for reaching the Final.

It was also good to see to old stalwarts of their respective clubs Brian Evans Worlbury and Bill Hawker Enmore out sharing a buggy and enjoying the golf

Change to the playing conditions of the Pickeridge Bowl

The SGU Executive Committee has ratified a small change to the playing conditions of the Pickeridge Bowl for 2015 and beyond. This is to bring the competition into line with those of the respective Somerset Bowls. Going forward, each game shall be played to a result. In the event of a tie after 18 holes, then the game will continue on a sudden death basis until a result has been achieved. If the overall match result has already been decided then this will not be necessary.

It is hoped that by adopting the same rules over all of our Knockout competitions we will minimise the possibilty of any confusion.
