Conditions of Play and Qualification

Conditions of play

The current general conditions relating to all England Golf Championships and Tournaments will apply to this Championship. The West of England Championship will be decided by Stroke Play over 36 holes. The winner will be the competitor with the lowest aggregate gross score. The Competition Committee’s decision in all matters is final.

The current EG Hardcard will be used. 

In the event of a tie the Championship will be decided by play off providing conditions at the time allow, if not the Championship will be decided on countback, final 18,9,6,3 etc

Where entries exceed 63 -72 in number, there will be a handicap ballot with the lowest WHS indexes forming the start sheet and a reserve list drawn in WHS index order. Once the reserve list is drawn no ammendements will be made to it following WHS handicap index changes.


Qualification

To be eligible to enter, a player must be:-

  • A male member of a golf club affiliated through its County Union to England Golf, The Golf Union of Wales or Scottish Golf
  • In possession of a competition playing handicap not exceeding index 5.0 under the current WHS Handicapping System.
  • Aged 55 on the 1st January (Year of Championship)..
