Conditions of Play and Qualification

Conditions of play

The current general conditions relating to all England Golf Championships and Tournaments will apply to this Championship. The West of England Championship will be decided by Stroke Play over 36 holes. The winner will be the competitor with the lowest aggregate gross score. The Competition Committee’s decision in all matters is final.

In the event of a tie the Championship will be decided by play off.

Where entries exceed 72 in number, there will be a handicap ballot with the lowest 72 forming the start sheet and a reserve list drawn.


To be eligible to enter, a player must be:-

  • A male member of a golf club affiliated through its County Union to England Golf, The Golf Union of Wales or Scottish Golf
  • In possession of a competition playing handicap not exceeding index 6.0 under the current WHS Handicapping System.
  • Aged 55 on the 1st January (Year of Championship)..
