The Under 18s were keen to put their poor performance against Gwent at Weston behind them and were given an early opportunity with their 2nd Channel  league match on the 28th may at Cumberwell Park versus last years league winners Wiltshire.  The boys got away to a good start with a foursomes win for Taylor Stote (Burnham & Berrow) and Kobe Adams  (Taunton & Pickeridge). There were further foursome wins for Josh Higgs (Wells) Tom Barker (Burnham & Berrow) and Ben Josham (Farrington Park) George Worthington  (Weston). Alex Manley (Cricket St Thomas) partnered with Seb Church (Saltford) battled back from two down with 3 to play to all square on the 17th but lost out on the 18th to lose 1 down. So the morning foursomes ended 3 – 2 in Somerset’s favour.

In blustery conditions in the afternoon playing the Blue and Orange courses the Somerset boys played some impressive golf. After 9 holes there was only a single game where the margin was greater than 1 hole. Seb Church playing at number 10 was 6 up after 9. He didn’t look back and ran out a comfortable winner.

The first four games all went to Somerset. So we needed just one more game for the overall victory.

Having lost their foursomes in the morning Kieran Babbage (Saltford) and Will Warman (Bath) were keen to secure wins and both arrived on the 16th dormie 3. They both turned in winning performances.

George Worthington won the 18th to win his game 1up and complete an impressive  8 – 2 singles win.

Cumberwell Park provided an excellent test for the boys and thanks go to them and Wiltshire for their hospitality and warm welcome.

The boys are now looking forward to SWCGA Championship at Teignmouth in July where competition for the 8 places available will be fierce.
