Things were looking very good for Somerset Seniors team at lunch. Looking to bounce back after two narrow defeats, they led visitors Gwent by 4 points to 1 after the morning fourballs. However, all that began to change as the afternoon singles got underway. Playing in beautiful conditions at Saltford, Gwent staged a spirited comeback, winning 5 out of the 8 opening matches. Our lead was now down to 7-6 - and we were behind in the last 2 games.
In the 9th game, Danny Dowell was trailing by 4 with 6 holes to go, but came back to secure a fighting half, and us needing a further half in the last match to secure victory. Captain Geoff Ogden got back to the match to see Alex Kidd 1 down with 3 to play. By winning 16 and 17 with the 18th being halved, Alex won his game to give us an overall victory 8.5-6.5.
As Geoff said "A very stressful afternoon!!"
