Launceston Golf course was well presented for Somerset's U18 Greenaway trophy match on the 5th August. The weather was very unkind and apart from a short period in the morning we endured persistent heavy rain. Despite the conditions the match was played in great spirit and was an excellent contest.
In the morning foursomes we picked uptwo wins from Kieran Babbage and Will Warman as well as Alex Manley and Tom Barker. Ben Josham and Joe Bray came back from 3 down to all square on the 18th tee. Unfortunately they left themselves a tough downhill put on the last and failed to hole out loosing out 1up. So the morning went to Cornwall 3 – 2.
In the afternoon singles we lost the first singles but then turned the tide taking the next 6 games. Stand out performances came from Alex Manley with an impressive 7 + 5 victory and Steven Blake who fought back from being 4 down after 6 holes to win on the 17th 2 + 1.
Kobe Adams,Tom Barker ,Kieran Babbage and Will Warman completed their games to take another very close match and set up the possibility of taking the Greenaway trophy with a win against Devon on the 6th August at Enmore. Hopefully the weather will be kinder!
Well done to the boys and thanks to Launceston for their hospitality.
