Having dried out from Monday the boys travelled South of the County to Cricket St Thomas. The BBC weather app indicated that is was going to be a dry day and for once they were accurate, there was even a sighting of the Sun ! Devon are always a challenge and again this proved to be the case. However, the foursomes were particularly disappointing for the home side as there were opportunities missed. A good lunch and a 'motivational' speech (without the hairdryer) from the manager was required, both followed, and a different Somerset turned up on the first tee for the afternoon singles, all looking up for the task ahead. The boys performed admirably against their lower handicapped opponents, which was not reflected in the scores on the top of the order! However the Somerset tail wagged and Lewis and Jackson secured 2 points from the afternoon session. Lewis gained a convincing win against an opponent 5 shots better on handicap, judging on this and past performances we may have an Ian Poulter on our hands here. Credit also goes to 'rookie' Jackson, making his Somerset debut and winning 2&1 in front of the growing gallery at the end of the day by calmly holing out a 3 feet footer to close out the game, nerves what nerves?. We would like to Thank the Golf Club for looking after us all so well and Tommy our President for attending in the afternoon. So, the end of a season where have certainly experienced some high and lows, unearthed some serious potential and taken the boys to a higher golfing level. Not many juniors in sport can say ' I have represented my County', all those who played this year can and did so creditably and in the correct spirit. Well Done all of you and we look forward working with some of you next year and following the progress of those of you who progress into the Under 16's, don't forget you learnt it all from us...Geoff, Martin & Ian :-)
