Match Report: At last the sun shone and the Team came to play their best, pity it was our last match. Unfortunately Wiltshire could only muster 8 players on this day, hence the walk overs. Morning foursomes went very well, not like us! Jack & Andrew, fresh from their win for the U.18’s a few days earlier, lead from the front and came home with our first win. The rest of the Team also gave us our best morning of the summer by not losing any of the matches. Lunch was a lot sweeter. Josh, our beloved Captain, stepped down in the afternoon as did Jake to allow Miles & Charlie to play, so everyone had a game on the day. Jordan is on a winning streak that's 3‘wins in 3 games well done Jordan, I knew he had in in him. Tom proved yet again he is ‘Mr Reliable’ with another good win, 6&5. The old adage of ‘it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish, epitomises Matt’s play, “How are you doing Matt? Oh I’m 2 down. - How did you get on Matt? Oh I won 4&3. This win gave Matt a100% record in singles matches 7wins out of 7.
This old adage can be applied to this Team. They started the season with 2 heavy losses but gradually showed their true mettle and team spirit by winning 3 of their last four matches, the best set of results for our U.16’s for a few years. I cannot praise the lads enough, it has been a pleasure to be their manager and an ‘uncle’ to this ‘Happy Band of Brothers’. Those moving up to the U.18’s, I shall miss you and I wish you luck and keep up your work ethic and you will succeed. To those staying with me, you have a lot to live up to and I wish Louis and his new squad the best of seasons next year. A special thank you from me goes to the Teams parents who share transport, turn them out smartly, they are a credit to you. See you in October. – Uncle Tony.
