As the team sheets were handed out we were surprised to see a number of new names for Gloucestershire list. There wwas no Wood, Potter, Chappell, Boulding or Masson. Somerset, on the other hand, had five settled pairs. It was decisive in the morning fourballs. Clear wins for four of our pairs and a hard fought half for Paddy Maclennan and Pete Davies gave us a 4½-0.½ lead at lunch.

Gloucestershire put out their big guns first in an unusual afternoon singles where the games were played in fours. We lost the opening two matches, but Stuart Robson & Danny Dowell replied with two good wins in games 3 and 4. Gloucestershire then fired in three good wins to give themselves a chance of victory, but that was snuffed out by a big win for Tim Harris. Then followed an incident packed game where Paddy Maclennan lost his ball on the 15th, only to discover near the green that his opponent had actually played his ball! The ever dependable Alex Kidd earned a hard fought half in the final game to give a final score of 9-6 in favour of Somerset.

Thanks are extendet to Thornbury for the meticulous way they made us welcome and to the Gloucestershire skipper Stuart Masson who masterminded the day for us all, We all wish him well in his recovery from illness and we look forward to locking horns with him and his other injured team mates next year.
