Somerset 9 - 6 Cornwall

The day started brightly with an unusual NW wind. This seemed to suit the locals who rushed to a 4-1 lead in the morning four balls. Poor Mike Wigley from Cornwall will remember it for a long time for all the wrong reasons. His electric trolley had died on him in the practice round and the hire trolley he used decided to take his clubs for a swim in a pond by the 8th green.

After lunch the singles were no less eventful. Skipper Tim Harris led the way with a win in game one but then waited 50 minutes by the 18th before game two came into view. Danny Dowell appeared with stories of lost balls, paths and drop zones to be 1 up in the end. Barry Simpson, Alex Kidd, Peter Davies and Stuart Robson all came in with halved matches but it was left to debutant Clive Stilwell to gain the vital point which sealed our victory. It was great for Clive who has had a long wait to perform on the County stage.

I would like to personally thank Mike Tanswell, the Isle of Wedmore Senior Captain who acted as starter and spotter out on the course. It allowed me to concentrate on the golf. Also a big thankyou to all at the Club. The day was a memorable experience for all involved and for some, in ways that were totally unexpected!
