The U18s first 2016 Channel League match resulted in a convincing win for Gwent.
The match was played at a very well presented Peterstone Lakes course on a warm spring day. The   wind featured in the afternoon making the course a stiff challenge.

There were excellent performances from Somerset debutants in the morning foursomes. Tom Smith from Landsdown GC combined with  Josh Higgs from Wells and played some great golf in their 4 + 2 win. Matt Ison Enmore and Owen Thresher Minehead battled back from 5 down eventually losing their match on the 17th.  Captain Will Warman from Bath GC combined well with Kobe Adams Taunton and Pickeridge to take Somerset’s second point. Unfortunately we were a player down and Liam O’Mara had to concede  the final foursomes.

I was grateful to Toby Gerrish Lansdown and Bath GCs for turning out at short notice for the afternoon singles. He battled extremely well eventually losing out on the 18th in his singles match 1 down
Seb Church Saltford was unlucky in his match, having led all the way he lost out to his worthy opponent on the 16th and 17th but did well to secure half a point winning the 18th.
Despite good battling performances from others Somerset were unable to return any other points and went down 9.5 - 0.5 in the singles.
It was encouraging to see young players taking the place of regular U18 squad players, they were committed and played well and represent good prospects for the future.
