Losing to Devon, last year by a close margin, the Team needed to improve their foursomes which was why we spent a lot of time during the winter working on our pairings and foursome play. This paid off, with Somerset going into lunch in the lead. Dylan & Tommie got a good half against a good Devon pairing. Best performance was by the two Tom’s Buckley & Smith with a convincing win by 3&2 followed by an 18th hole win by captain Louis Archer & Huxley Howell.

We have always been better at singles and the afternoon proved no exception even though all the matches were close with 4 or 5 holes left to play. As I always say “it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish” and the boys did that. A substitution was made for the afternoon, bringing in Jake Bovington
with Alfie Jubb stepping down to allow Jake to play, thank you Alfie.

From the 1st tee it was an impressive start with 7 out of the 8 players having birdie putts for a chance to win the first hole. All of them got a birdie or a par. As Alix Kew our last man was about to tee off
I commented “that his was going to be the decisive match”, this must of inspired him, he started birdie, birdie and by the time he shook hands on the 17th with a fine 2 & 1 win and clinching the match, he had accumulated 5 birdies. The whole team must be congratulated by their play, their sporting spirit and determination to succeed,  Jack & I were very proud of them.  Thanks must go to Andrew Engliand & Wheathill G.C. for their excellent hospitality.
