A young Somerset side were selected to take on Gloucester @ Saltford in this U 18 channel league match.

All of the morning foursomes were close apart from one match. We were unlucky to loose three games on the 18th.  Tom Batker (Burnham) and Jack Partridge (Worlebury) looked to have halved their match with an impressive chip in on the last, but the Gloucester boys had other ideas and holed out from 30ft for a win.

It was a similar story for Bath pairing of Liam O’Mara and Adam Jolly as the pair lipped out on the last for a half.

So the morning went to Gloucester 5 – 0

In the singles the boys came out fighting and after 11 holes were up in 8 games and on for a very unlikely win. Gloucester fought well in a number of games again securing two 1 up wins on the 18th.

Somerset’s youngsters were a credit to the county and there were excellent wins against good opposition for Toby Gerrish (Lansdown) and Liam O’Mara ( Bath).

Tom Barker(Burnham) Will Warman (Bath) and Seb Church (Saltford) secured further points for the home county.

14 year old Adam Jolly  played well and was unlucky to lose on the last 1 down.

It's fair to say that the match could easily have gone the other way and that the score didn't reflect how close the match was.

My thanks to Saltford GC for looking after both sides and for presenting the course in excellent condition

The Under18s final match is at Downes Crediton v Devon on the 16th August.
