The U 18s first Channel League match of 2017 was at Farrington Park GC on a cool windy day on the 31st May. The course was well presented and the club looked after both teams extremely well.
Somerset began the foursomes  a player short which cost us the final point of the day.
Good performances from Louis Archer and Huxley Howell of Saltford and Matt Ison and Jake Bovington of Enmore took us into the afternoon singles only a point behind Gwent.
The afternoon singles got off to a great start. Owen Thresher defeating Welsh International Ben Hicks in the top game. Jake Bovington  took the next point and Charlie Camper came in with the third.
Through 14 holes Somerset were up in 4 of the remaining matches and looking good for a win. The closing holes were unkind to us and Gwent turned all the games around to take a somewhat surprising 7 - 3 win in the singles.
The U 16s representing Somerset performed well, Alix Kew, Lewis Coward and Adam Jolly fought hard in all of their games. Adam was most unfortunate to loose the 18th and go down 1 down.
My thanks to Farrington GC and to President Paul Middleton for his support on the day.
The next outing for the U 18s will be the EG qualifier at Came Down in July. We are all looking forward to it.
