Somerset were entertained by Wiltshire Golf Union at Ogbourne Downs Golf Club on Sunday 23rd April Both sides showed the depth of their squads due to the West of England stroke play at Saunton in a very tight encounter.
The morning foursomes were halved with victories for Phil White and Johnny Grace and Curtis Edwards partnered by Jack Palmer. The half point came from Captain Justin Lane and Oli Worts .
Both sides went into the singles with strength at the top. Johnny Grace defeated James Cooper 4/3 in the opening match. Josh Hilleard played against Gary Slade and made the turn in 28, 7under par. He went on to win his game 4/3 Philip White narrowly lost to Simon Futcher 1 down.
The next 3 games were all halved, Jeremy Larcombe against Dominic Seaman, Curtis Edwards against Max Drayton and Jason Brock against Paul Matthews.
Joe Retford defeated Kobe Adams 4/3 and Jack Palmer narrowly lost to Paul McMullen 2/1. The last 2 games were also close affairs with Captain Lane winning by 2 holes but only to find that the Wiltshire captain Ali James defeated Oli Worts 2/1 to seal a close fought match 8/7. The match was played in a great spirit and both captains thanked Ogbourne Downs for looking after both counties so well. Next for Somerset is Gwent away at Rolls of Monmouth on the 7th May.
