The U 18s entertained Wiltshire at Farrington on the 13th August. After overnight rain the greens were receptive and the course played well. Strong winds made for testing conditions .

In the morning foursomes Louis Archer and Sam Floyd got away to a flying start winning four of the first five holes. The opposition fought back well before going down to a birdie on the 17th 2 + 1.

In the other foursomes Alix kew and Alfie Jubb were three up with five to play but some fine play by the Wiltshire pair resulted in them holing a put on the 18th for what looked like an unlikely win.

Liam O’Mara and Jack Coward fought back from four down but lost to a birdie on the 17th green 2 + 1.

Wiltshire took a 4 - 1 lead into the singles. After 9 holes all matches were tight with nothing between the players in seven matches and only a single hole in the remainder.

Unfortunately the back nine favoured the opposition who took a commanding lead in a number of games and despite some solid resistance ran out comfortable winners with eight singes wins. Only Louis Archer and Liam O’Mara picked up points for the home team.

Somerset debutant Tom Hayden from Clevedon played well and made an encouraging start to his County career despite missing out on any points.

Congratulations to Wiltshire on a comprehensive victory. My thanks to all at Farrington Golf Club who looked after both sides extremely well both on and off the golf course. Also thanks to SGU president Paul Middleton for his support in the afternoon.
